Later this month, the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts will be kicking off its Centennial Celebration: Yesterday Today Tomorrow, which is a year-long series of cultural and entertainment events to celebrate the Turner House's 100th birthday.
The first event that is part of the Centennial Celebration will be a performance by the musical group Matt Tolentino and His Hot Five at 7 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Turner House, located at 401 N. Rosemont Avenue.
At the festivity, the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts board chairman Scott Chase will announce the schedule of events that will be hosted throughout the year to celebrate the Turner House's birthday and the contributions of "art, music, architecture and community activities" that it has made in the Oak Cliff community.
Over the years, the Turner House, which is a well-known landmark in the Winnetka Heights neighborhood, has served as a private residence and a church. In 1957, the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts became the owner of the house. The Turner House now offers music and art events and serves as a venue for weddings, baptisms, receptions, book clubs and a variety of other activities.
