Best Suburbs in Dallas for First-Time Homebuyers

The housing market is stable, and first-time homebuyers are expected to return en masse over the coming year. There is no question that the DFW area has amazing neighborhoods for established families, but does the area have what Millennials are looking for as well? For those looking to take the initial leap from renting to buying, the answer is a resounding yes!

According to a recent report by the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas–Fort Worth suburbs are among the best cities in the United States for first-time homebuyers, offering some of the best options in amenities, affordability, environment and safety.

Need a little more convincing that Dallas is the place to be for first-time homebuyers? Well, take a look at the recent study by Wallet Hub, which identified 6 DFW cities as being in the top 10 best places to live in the United States. Making the list of the top 10 cities are Allen (#2), Denton (#4), Frisco (#5), Plano (#6), McKinney (#7) and Richardson (#10).

The I-75 Corridor Hotspot

Clearly the cities flanking the I-75 corridor all have something special to offer. First-time homebuyers have tons of options as they travel from Richardson up I-75 to Plano, McKinney and Allen. Part of what has made this area so ideal for first-time homebuyers is the various commuting options offered. Millennials can carpool, bus or take a train from any of these communities into the heart of Downtown Dallas. Also, they can stop off at an unlimited number of dining establishments and local breweries on the way home, turning the average daily commute into a recreational opportunity at the end of a long day at work.

All of these cities also offer smaller patio homes, townhomes and condominiums that are located within communities built to appeal to first-time homebuyers. With quirky cafes, trendy shopping options and workout facilities that rival the Biggest Loser Ranch, these communities offer amenities, often within walking distance, to appeal to the lifestyles of today’s Millennial homebuyers.

Frisco, Denton and Beyond

Frisco seems to be on the tongue of real estate media experts around the country these days. From CNN to Forbes, Frisco is often referenced as one of the top places to live and raise a family in the United States. And, who could blame them? With tons of shopping and entertainment options, including a minor league baseball team and a professional soccer team, one of the top-rated school districts in the country, and housing options that fit just about every budget, Frisco seems to have something for everyone.

One of the surprise entrants on the list is the sleepy college town of Denton, located north on I-35. With its quaint shops, local festivals and charming town square, this town is quickly becoming a great community for Millennials looking to leave college behind them and transition into growing careers.
