Dallas Independent School District trustees are scheduled to vote on whether to close 11 schools at a meeting Thursday, but several board members want to hold off on making a decision until a later date.
N.W. Harllee Elementary School is one of the schools that will be shut down if the trustees vote in favor of the closures, as will eight other elementary schools and two middle schools in the district. If the trustees vote to close the schools, it would be the largest reorganization the district has ever experienced.
Right now, the trustees appear to be split on the decision about whether to keep the schools open or shut them down.
The school district is currently in the middle of a budget crunch and is facing a $38 million reduction in state funding next school year. Shutting down the schools would save an estimated $11.5 million.
