CitySquare AmeriCorps Swearing In of 200 Members

AmeriCorps is a national service program dedicated to serving in local communities to affect change through service. It is one of the programs in danger of disappearing in the new federal budget cuts. On Tuesday, May 30, 2017, more than 200 new CitySquare AmeriCorps members were sworn in for a summer of service.  The ceremony took place at St. Philips School and Community Center in South Dallas. With the support of the OneStar Foundation, poverty-fighting organization CitySquare operates one of the largest AmeriCorps programs in North Texas. Members serve with 16 nonprofit organizations operating summer programs to help eliminate summer learning loss for youth.  Other members help to provide food security for low-income families by delivering meals to kids and by helping make a fun, productive summer break with quality play-time in CitySquare’s Food on the Move mobile meals program. Members also serve within CitySquare programs to fight poverty with working families. In return for service, AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance and an education award to use for higher education costs!
