Dallas Arboretum Presents WFAA’s Family First Day on June 13 with Special Reduced $8 Admission

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is partnering with WFAA/Channel 8’s Family First on Saturday, June 13 to showcase its nationally acclaimed Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden. In honor of Family First Day, admission to the Dallas Arboretum, including the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden, is discounted to $8 per person on that day for tickets purchased at the gate only. The rate does not include parking; however guests are encouraged to purchase parking online in advance for $8, subject to availability. The special activities are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Children’s Adventure Garden, but guests are welcome to come as early as 9 a.m. and stay until the garden closes at 5 p.m. 

WFAA’s Family First, sponsored by Children’s Health, Stacy Furniture & Design and Christian Brothers Automotive, provides community-focused broadcast content and event-based information to help North Texas families live stronger, safer, healthier and more fulfilling lives. Stephanie Wilcox, Family First manager and director of community marketing, said, “We are excited that the Dallas Arboretum’s nationally acclaimed Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden is hosting WFAA’s Family First again this year. What a perfect place to reinforce family, education and nature coming together for our viewers.”

Guests can explore the one-of-a-kind scientific Children’s Adventure Garden, which includes eight acres of more than 150 interactive exhibits in 17 indoor and outdoor galleries. Guests also have an opportunity to meet Arboretum mascots who will make appearances to teach science concepts throughout the whole garden.

In addition to the regularly scheduled daily activities, the Arboretum also features a wide variety of engaging activities throughout the garden that are offered exclusively for the Family First Day. WFAA news anchors and reporters are scheduled to make appearances and interact with various science experts and viewers from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the Children’s Adventure Garden.

Family First Activities include the following:

Nature Puppet Show
10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at The Glade – Puppet Theater
“Finding My Way Home”: Come along on Kyle’s journey of discovery through the Children’s Adventure Garden. Meet his new friends, Savannah, Toby and Zach as he searches for a place to call home.

OmniGlobe Demonstration with Meteorologist Greg Fields
1 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Exploration Center Globe Theatre
Meteorologist Greg Fields and Dallas Arboretum Science Techs will discuss global weather patterns, forecasting and the science of global and regional weather mapping using indoor five-foot-tall interactive OmniGlobe. Children and people who attend will have an opportunity to chat in-person with WFAA’s meteorologist featuring the largest OmniGlobe in the state with touch-screen technology.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Presented by Dallas Junior Players
11 a.m. & 12 p.m. at The Glade – Puppet Theater
The Dallas Junior Players, the oldest children’s theater in Dallas, will present two scenes from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  The Junior Players have provided arts and creative programming to children across North Texas since 1955, presenting traditional theater productions performed entirely by children and teenagers.

Plant Lab Demonstrations
Plant Lab: Amazing Race - Dirt Edition

11a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Exploration Center
Dirt is important and has a special job. From growing vegetables to creating a habitat, each different kind of soil has a purpose. Get down in the dirt with us to learn the methods scientists use to classify different soils and take part in what we call The Amazing Race!
