Cheerleaders from Notre Dame School of Dallas are preparing for the Special Olympics World Games to be held July 25 – August 2 in Los Angeles.  The squad will participate in the Opening Ceremonies at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.  Opening ceremonies will include performances by Stevie Wonder, Avril Lavigne, Cody Simpson and others.

Los Angeles is set to welcome more than 7,000 Special Olympics athletes from 170 nations to compete in 25 Olympic-type sports.  It's a world stage for athletes with intellectual disabilities to demonstrate on the playing field their courage, determination and spirit of sportsmanship. 

The Notre Dame Cheer Squad learned several new dances and cheers for the World Games with the help of the Cistercian cheerleaders and volunteers from Bishop Lynch. The squad has been equipped with new uniforms, travel bags and t-shirts. A member of the squad also participated in the passing of the Olympic torch in downtown Dallas last week.

The Cheerleaders are thankful for the many supporters that gave generously to offset the travel expenses of this trip.  They are counting the days until departure! 

Notre Dame School educates students with intellectual disabilities and facilitates their integration into society.  As the only school in Dallas exclusively serving this student population, Notre Dame is a unique educational resource in our city and provides special education to 150 students ages 8 to 21.  Notre Dame School is located in Uptown, just north of downtown Dallas.
