Texans Can Academies and Cars for Kids announces the relocation of its vehicle donation and auction facility from 1911 E Division St, Arlington, Texas to 7100 Marvin D. Love Freeway at the corner of Highway 67 and Camp Wisdom Road in Dallas, Texas. The 8.3-acre site was a former automobile dealership that has long been vacant and recently renovated by Cars for Kids. The renovation of the 27,000 square foot main building includes offices for the nonprofit organization’s staff members, a buyer’s lounge, dealer room, sales offices and an indoor auction bay with seating for the public. The facility is equipped with energy efficient lighting inside and out.

Cars for Kids facilities manager and boat mechanic, William "Bill" Garey, designed and painted the inspiring new mural in the facility’s lobby that depicts the purpose of the nonprofit charity: to give all students a second chance to graduate from high school. Saturday auctions will be held weekly at 9 a.m. at the new site and are open to the public.

“We are happy to be in our new location, bringing us closer to most of our customers and donors,” said Malcolm Wentworth, chief operating officer of Texans Can Academies.  “We have lots of parking available at this facility and have more room to accommodate our buyers, both inside and outside.”

Cars For Kids has been operated by Texans Can Academies since 1992 and is the only car donation facility in the United States directly run by the charity it benefits. Donations are accepted across the United States of vehicles, boats, RVs, jet skis and heavy equipment, running or not. Free towing for vehicles, boats and other equipment is also offered to all donors. If the title is not available, Cars for Kids donation specialists are able to apply and receive a title for the vehicle or boat. Full fair market value for donations is given in most cases, giving donors the best tax deduction within IRS guidelines.

Public auto auctions will be held at the facility 50 Saturdays out of the year. When a vehicle is donated, the condition is evaluated and, if warranted, minor repairs are made by employees of the nonprofit organization to improve the sales price at auction. Once the donation specialists are able to verify the status of the vehicle’s title, the vehicle is placed into one of their auctions.  After the car is sold to the highest auction bidder, the Cars for Kids Auction staff processes all auction sale paperwork and files the appropriate documents with the state for processing and titling of the vehicle.

The nonprofit group donates 100% of the net proceeds from the auctions to support the at-risk high school students enrolled in Texans Can Academies. Cars for Kids’ mission is to raise funds for Texans Can Academies’ 11 charter schools in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio. The schools are tuition-free, open enrollment, public high schools of choice serving students who have struggled in a traditional high school setting.

For those wishing to donate a vehicle or other property, online forms are available to schedule a free pick-up. Tow trucks are usually able to respond within 24 hours to those wishing to have a car or boat delivered to Cars for Kids. Staff members are also available seven days a week, 24-hours each day at 866-835-KIDS (5437) to answer questions or process donation paperwork. The larger and newly opened auction center also has cars available each Saturday for anyone wishing to purchase a pre-owned car, truck, boat, jet skis and more.
