Bishop Dunne Falcons Fly With Two New Volleyball Coaches

Kameshia Melton was captain of the women’s volleyball team at the University of Arkansas in Monticello, where she received a bachelor’s degree of Business Administration in Marketing. Prior to that she was also captain of the women’s volleyball team at Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kansas. She went to Auburn University, then transferred to Kansas, and finally finished her degree at Arkansas. “I’m a world traveler of small states!” Kamesha said with a laugh.

A self-starter with the ability to motivate and encourage others, she has been head coach of Elite teams in both Grapevine and Southlake and assistant coach in Addison and at John Paul II. Her experience as a high school and college player and coach of all ages makes her a well-rounded professional ready to take on the challenge of a rebuilding a young team.

Born in Dallas, she attended Grapevine High where she was a tri-athlete - she played volleyball, basketball and ran track, and lettered in all three sports.

Kameshia lives in Grapevine with her two year old son, Tyce, and is a Dallas Cowboys fan. Her brother, Henry Melton, a pro bowler in 2012, plays for the team and was a player at the University of Texas when the

Longhorns won the National Championship. “We got along well growing up,” says Kameshia, “and he’s happy to hear all about Bishop Dunne and wants to come see some of our volleyball games.” Kameshia is thrilled to be the new head coach of the girls’ volleyball team at Bishop Dunne, and hopes to coach the Falcons to a State Championship.

Coach Waites, JV Volleyball

Marquita Waites was a four-sport athlete at Lancaster High School, competing in softball, volleyball, basketball and track. She made the Varsity volleyball squad her freshman year in high school, and was captain both her junior and senior years. She was in the National Honor Society and named Miss Lancaster High.

Waites graduated in 2002 and earned a four year volleyball scholarship to Grambling State where she majored in Kinesiology and minored in coaching. She started as a freshman and was team captain in 2006, graduating with a 3.32 GPA. In addition to coaching at Bishop Dunne, she coaches three DFW Tornados Club Volleyball teams made up of 13, 14 and 16-year-old girls.

Prior to her current coaching position, Waites coached at Bessie Coleman Middle School where she coached 7th and 8th grade girls in volleyball, basketball, cross country and track and field. Now she runs the DFW Tornados volleyball program, one she created four years ago. Girls 10 to 18 attend the program to learn the intricacies of the game and play club volleyball.
