The City of Dallas and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday with a parade and awards banquet Jan. 18 and 19. The theme for this year’s observance is Remember! Celebrate! Act! Passing on the Dream.”

The celebration will begin with a candle lighting ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at MLK Recreation Center, 2901 Pennsylvania Ave. At 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, elected officials, community leaders and organizations, school bands and youth groups, churches and others will line up at Dallas City Hall for the march and parade down MLK Blvd., ending inside Fair Park at the MLK Blvd. entrance. Activities will conclude with an Awards Banquet at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 300 Reunion Blvd., featuring Operation Hope Foundation CEO John Hope Bryant.

This is the 31st year that citizens of Dallas have joined together to acknowledge Dr. King’s contributions and rededicate themselves to uphold and advance his efforts to make a better life for all people. All activities, except the Awards Banquet, are free and open to the public.
