An Evening With Emmylou Harris At Arlington Hall for Stay-Focused

On October 7, 13-Time Grammy Award-Winning Country/Folk/Americana Recording Artist Emmylou Harris will perform at Arlington Hall (3333 Turtle Creek Boulevard, Dallas, Texas, 75219) benefiting Stay-Focused.  Paralympian and Stay-Focused alumnus and mentor Ryan Chalmers will also make a special appearance to champion the support of programs that offer leadership development for teens and young adults with disabilities.

Fresh off the completion of her national tour with Rodney Crowell for their Grammy Award-Winning Americana Album "Old Yellow Moon," Harris will greet fans at an exclusive meet and greet followed by a performance in the Great Hall. Award-winning local artist Camille Cortinas will perform during a pre-concert reception. Following the concert by Harris in the Great Hall, Chef Joseph Oldham will present a three-course formal dinner.

Stay-Focused Founder and President Roger Muller said, "We are very grateful country music legend, Emmylou Harris, will be performing a benefit concert for Stay-Focused in Dallas. Arlington Hall is the perfect setting for a memorable evening of good music and good food. We look forward to having our guests learn more about Stay-Focused and the good work we do for persons with disabilities and connecting with the North Texas disabled community."  Harris is a friend of Stay-Focused and has performed for two previous fundraising concerts.

The evening is the first of its kind in Dallas benefiting Stay-Focused. Stay-Focused empowers teens with disabilities through scuba certification and leadership development programs. From the moment they enter the water, Stay-Focused participants experience a world without limitations. Scuba diving offers participants independence and self-confidence, providing freedom of movement without the help of adaptive equipment. The mission of increasing awareness and the number of teens served by Stay-Focused programs, which are offered at no charge, relies on connecting with and summoning the support of new communities across the United States.

In 2013, Stay-Focused launched Push Across America, a national campaign to raise awareness of the potential of all persons with disabilities. In 71 days, Paralympian Ryan Chalmers pushed his racing chair 3,321 miles from Los Angeles to New York City. Through this incredible test of strength and character, Ryan sought to demonstrate the overwhelming ability of the disabled. An Evening with Emmylou Harris is one of three events across the U.S. aimed at connecting Stay-Focused with local communities who have been inspired by Ryan’s journey and raising funds for leadership development programs for disabled youth.

Tickets are now available at stay-focused.org/dallas. Tables of 10 are available upon request and individual tickets for the concert only are $150 per person. There are a limited number of VIP Tickets that include a private meet and greet reception with Emmylou Harris prior to the show, post-concert dinner and the entire evening’s festivities for $500 per person. The pre-concert reception will offer full bar stations with heavy hors d’oeuvres and wine service, and the seated dinner will include wine and cocktails. Champagne, wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served at the private VIP meet and greet.

About Stay-Focused:  Stay-Focused is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity, incorporated in 2003. Stay-Focused offers a unique, transformational learning experience to teens and young adults with disabilities. Through scuba certification and leadership development programs, participants gain confidence, develop leadership skills, and become more independent. Stay-Focused has run 36 scuba diving programs and worked with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) in certifying 82 teens and young adults with disabilities. The organization has a team of medical doctors focused on establishing guidelines to optimize the safety of scuba diving on persons with disabilities.

Scuba Certification Programs

Stay-Focused summer programs bring disabled teens from all over the United States to the Cayman Islands, where they learn to scuba dive, participate in leadership development programs, and build life-long friendships. While most sports involve special adaptive equipment for the disabled, scuba diving requires the same equipment for all divers, able-bodied or not. Underwater, participants experience a freedom of movement unattainable above the surface, where many require the use of wheelchairs or other mobility aids.

Stay-Focused scuba certification programs, led by highly qualified diving instructors, are designed to give each and every participant the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the water safely and confidently. Alumni mentors help new divers to work through their fears, anxiety and self-doubt and stay focused on their abilities rather than their disabilities. With the support of those around them and the newfound strength within themselves, participants embark on their first ocean dive, a highly transformative experience. The goal of Stay-Focused is to empower participants to apply the confidence, freedom, and independence gained underwater to their academic, work, and personal lives.

Leadership Development Programs

In conjunction with scuba certification training, Stay-Focused programs include leadership development workshops designed to encourage participants to translate the freedom and independence of scuba diving into their daily lives. This curriculum, developed with the advisement of a distinguished group of corporate and community leaders, focuses on several critical aspects of leadership, including self-reliance, responsibility for others, clarity of purpose, and building a legacy for those that follow.
