DISD Releases Helpful Information About Ebola Virus

To help ease panic surrounding the Ebola virus, Dallas ISD has released several informational articles about the disease on its website.

The district's site reminds parents that the Ebola virus cannot be spread until symptoms appear. According to an update earlier today, the students exposed to the Ebola patient are not showing symptoms. Virus symptoms include:  fever, severe headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain and unexplained bleeding or bruising.

Ebola is only spread through bodily fluids. After Dr. David Lakey, commissioner of the state health department, expressed concern about hygiene at The Ivy Apartments in northeast Dallas, where the Ebola patient stayed, city officials hired a cleaning company to sanitize the area.

The State Department of Health Services is reaching out to people who may have come in contact with the patient before he was hospitalized on Sunday. While the department estimates about 100 people have been in "possible contact," health officials insist only 12-18 people have come in direct contact with the patient.
