"Letter from the president"

To all of our members, it is time to nominate new officers for the Fort Worth Avenue Development Group board.

Nearing the end of my term in office, I can only say that it has been my pleasure to be involved with and to serve such an active and important group of volunteers, members and those on the Fort Worth Avenue Development Group board of directors over the course of the past two years.

An awful lot has happened along our corridor since 2010, and our community has many new accomplishments to be proud of.

We now have Metro Paws, a fabulous, new, state of the art animal clinic and hospital located at the intersection of Fort Worth Avenue and Malone Drive.

Jack's Backyard, always a local favorite, has been replaced with Chicken Scratch Restaurant and The Foundry; business on that corner has never been better!

Our roadways have received a tremendous amount of attention; the opening of the Calatrava bridge, the soon to begin reconstruction of Sylvan Avenue, the intersection of Beckley Avenue and Commerce Street, the new bridges on Sylvan Avenue, Interstate 30, and Interstate 35.

The proposed bicycle lanes on Edgefield, Fort Wort Avenue and Sylvan Avenue are slated to be striped any day now, and will tie into the Coombs Creek Trail.

FWADG is negotiating a "Supplemental Irrigation Agreement" with the city to manage the flora within the new rain gardens at the Commerce/Beckley intersection which will be the first true COMPLETE & GREEN STREET in Dallas.

In case you hadn't noticed, we have public art along our corridor in front of the Belmont and Chicken Scratch, with more to come soon after this year's fundraiser dollars are allocated to a local artist.
Maybe just as artsy but edible are the snow cones at the new vendor trailers east of Pittman.

The Dallas Marathon will be crossing the Trinity River on December 9th with a loop through our community on Commerce Street, Ft. Worth Avenue, Sylvan Avenue and Singleton Boulevard.

I could go on, and on, but let me get to the point; it is time for ALL OF OUR MEMBERS to nominate new officers to lead Fort Worth Avenue Development Group forward in 2013.

Offices to be filled:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer

There is no requirement that the nominees be current FWADG board members, only that they be current Fort Worth Avenue Development Group members in good standing.  If you know of someone who would make a good, hard working candidate with our community's best interest in mind, please nominate them to one of the officer positions.

Please send your nominee recommendations to:
officer@fortworthavenue.org

Your nominee submissions will be promptly processed and interviewed by our FWADG nominations committee.

The deadline for submitting your nominees to the nominations committee is Sunday, October 14, 2012. Please do not delay in making your recommendations.

Thank you for being a member of our vital organization, your thoughts and input are important to us.
Please let your voice be heard.

Sincerely;
David Lyles
President
Fort Worth Avenue Development Group
