Registration Opens for 2011 MetroPCS Dallas White Rock Marathon
on National Running Day: June 1, 2011
Record 25,000 spots available; $1 million donation goal announced
Registration for the 42nd running of the MetroPCS Dallas White Rock Marathon benefiting Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC) will open June 1 at www.runtherock.com. After selling out the previous four years, the 2011 MetroPCS Dallas White Rock Marathon™, Half Marathon & 5-Person Relay Race, and SMU Cox Corporate Relay Challenge, presented by Behringer Harvard, has increased its participant cap to 25,000 runners for the December 4, 2011, race.
“Last year, with the help of our board members, volunteers, and through the generosity of our corporate sponsors, we put on one of the best races to date and were able to donate a record $560,000 to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children,” said Phil Baker, chairman of the Dallas White Rock Marathon (DWRM) board of directors. “This year, we’re excited to announce that we’ve set a $1 million donation goal to support the amazing work of the hospital.”
MetroPCS will serve as the race’s title sponsor for the third consecutive year, and has also signed on as title sponsor for the 2012 running of the DWRM.
“With the renewed support of MetroPCS as our marathon’s title sponsor, we have the ability to improve our race, enhance the community’s race-week experience and ultimately, make a larger donation to the hospital,” Baker said.
To help reach this year’s $1 million donation goal to TSRHC, the Marathon will turn to its runners, with each registrant receiving an option to raise funds through a personal fundraising page at runtherock.com. TSRHC has been the beneficiary of the race since 1997.
“The support of the Dallas White Rock Marathon board, sponsors, such as MetroPCS, and the generosity of those raising funds to benefit the patients of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children means the world to us,” said Bob Walker, executive vice president and administrator of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. “We would not be able to continue our mission of providing quality patient care without friends like the Dallas White Rock Marathon.”
The Dallas White Rock Marathon will return to Fair Park this December, looking to build on last year’s inaugural success at the historic location.
“We’re going to have a faster start, better parking options at the Expo and an improved bag drop,” said Marcus Grunewald, race director for the DWRM. “We listened to feedback from last year’s participants and have worked to improve the race experience – this has always been a race for runners, by runners.”
Registration is capped at 6,000 marathon participants, 13,000 half-marathon participants, and 6,000 relay participants. Event fees for the marathon, half marathon, and 5-person relays are $100, $85, and $225, respectively. Fees will increase on September 1. Registration for the Mayor’s Race 5K Fun Run and Walk on Saturday, December 3, 2011, is also available.
