Dallas Home Connection Free Workshop Invites You To Learn ‘How To Become A Homeowner’

In 2008, Capital One Bank established the Dallas Home Connection (DHC), a collaboration of nonprofit homebuilders and other building organizations that promote, support and provide quality affordable housing in South Dallas

The free “How to Become a Homeowner” workshop helps future first-time homebuyers learn more about the advantages of being a member of the DHC’s Home Buyer’s Club and provides information about  its curriculum. Capital One Bank and its DHC partners developed The Dallas Home Buyers Club for buyers who have less-than-perfect credit and do not have enough savings for a new home. When clients enroll in the club they work with a personal financial counselor who assesses their credit reports and identifies strategies for improving their creditworthiness and savings. Capital One Bank’s DHC partners guide and educate clients through the process, with the goal of helping people achieve the dream of homeownership.

Attendees will be able to register for prizes, enjoy light snacks and meet housing and financial experts.

Membership guidelines include a minimum credit score of 550, a minimum household income of $25,000 and a membership fee to cover the cost of the initial credit report for $25.

DHC’s motto is “GET IT. KEEP IT.” It sends a strong message about the importance of obtaining the knowledge of what is needed to buy a home, being aware of how the home buying process works, and understanding how to maintain ownership.

The event is June 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the City Square Opportunity Center, 1610 S Malcolm X Blvd.

Attendees will receive helpful information and have a chance to speak with homebuilders and other community-based resource organizations dedicated to helping revitalize South Dallas. Neighborhoods targeted for this program include Pleasant Grove, South Dallas, Fair Park, Oak Cliff and West Dallas.

Dallas Home Connection (DHC) provides a secure path to homeownership through financial literacy education, empowering low- and moderate-income families to break through the barriers to homeownership, and walking hand-in-hand with clients as they navigate the process of getting a home and keeping it.
