Bishop Dunne’s Annual Golf Tournament was held at the Oak Cliff Golf Club of Dallas Monday under mostly sunny skies paired with a strong breeze. Players were cheerful throughout the day, competing in a popular scramble format.
A foursome sponsored by the Guerrero Law Firm won, which included golfers Danny Bollinger, David McGoodwin, Ivan Sparkman and Dave Patzwald, with a low score of 59.
2nd place winners were Mike Buchanan, James Picha, Rich Morris, and Jay Salem with a score of 60.
3rd place winners were: Scott Floyd, Fr. Tuan Le, Chris Sheets and Josh Cheek.
Longest Drive of the day was achieved by Bishop Dunne Calculus Teacher Kevin Braun, playing in a foursome with his father in law, Tony Provenzale, for 4th year in a row. “I was surprised as anyone that I won!” admitted Kevin, who received a case of new golf balls for his effort.
“Closest to the Pin” winner was golfer Lance Watt, who also received a case of new golf balls.
A Silent Auction held a variety of items, from a grill and outdoor patio furniture to a wonderful purple Electra Cruiser bike that had bidders salivating. Teacher Robbie Zeske was the final bike bidder. She was on hand all day monitoring the “Hole in One” challenge on hole #3 with her father, Larry Zeske, who brought along many autographed sports items, including a poster of Roger Staubach and a framed and autographed picture of Nolan Ryan in his younger years. Robbie was happy to spend the time with her father, monitoring the course and the hole-in-one competition. Prize for that was $10,000. No winners this year.
The two highest items bid for in the silent auction were an 80 qt. craw fish boiler with the 2 folding chairs for $400, and the autographed, framed QB Andrew Luck Indianapolis Colts jersey for $350.
A barbeque lunch was served by former Bishop Dunne alumni Brent and Juan Reaves, who along with their father, own “Smokey John's” located on Mockingbird Avenue.
A delicious dinner of fried chicken, chicken fried steak and potatoes ended the day.
Funds from the day support the Scholar Athletes at Bishop Dunne.
