Methodist Dallas Medical Center is beginning construction on its six-story, 248,000-square-foot tower. The new facility, which will be dedicated to emergency and trauma care is anticipated to open in 2014. Officials plan to break ground in the fall, and site preparation work will begin on May 28.
Passersby will notice a few changes to the landscaping surrounding Pavilion 1, the website says. "Wherever possible we will save and replant any old growth trees. The plan has been reviewed and approved by the City of Dallas, and Methodist is working with an arborist for tree repopulation that will increase the number of trees on campus."
On June 4, curbs will be removed surrounding the construction site. " For the benefit of the neighborhoods, all truck traffic to and from the site will be directed to leave the site on east bound Colorado, and concrete trucks will be staged on Ballard."
Methodist Medical Center is the only acute trauma hospital serving Oak Cliff, and, according to the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce, the hospital is the area's largest employer.
