When David Gonzalez's friend got ovarian cancer, he was stunned.

The survival rates for ovarian cancer, the fifth most common cancer in women, are dicey as it is rarely discovered in its earlier, more treatable stages. The truth is, doctors don't know too much about the disease, which is often described as a "silent killer."

So Gonzalez, along with other members of the newly formed Social Club Movement, have organized a fundraiser to raise money and awareness about ovarian cancer.

The Aug. 18 Cancer Meltdown will be at Lake Cliff Park and will start at 5 p.m. Expect tasty treats from food trucks, a photo booth, clothes from Durty Laundry, and tunes from local DJs. All proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
