Dallas Holocaust Museum Hosting Student Art Contest

The Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance will be giving out $450 in prize money to winners of its 2012 Art Contest.

Sixth through twelfth grade students can participate by submitting artwork they create in any two-dimensional medium that focuses on the contest’s theme, “April 19, 1943: Choosing to Act,” which is also the Museum’s core exhibition.

The contest is meant to encourage students to research the events that occurred during the Holocaust on April 19, 1943 and respond in an artistic way.

Winners of the contest will be selected from two categories, which are sixth to eighth grade and ninth to twelfth grade. The prizes for the winners in each category will be $100 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place.

The names of the winners will be announced on April 5, and their artwork will be on display at the Museum's Yom Hashoah program. The winners will be formally recognized at the program, which is where they will also receive their awards.

The deadline for contest submissions is March 23. Additional information about the contest, including its complete set of rules, can be found at www.dallasholocaustmuseum.org.
