Dallas United PINK Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Team

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dallas United PINK is proud to announce that they will be representing North Texas in the International Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Festival in Florence, Italy, July 6-8, 2018.  This incredible event happens every four years with over 2,400 survivors and 120 crews from around the world. Dragon Boating has been proven to aid in the post surgery recovery program for breast cancer patients.

Many in the Dallas area have never heard of dragon boating.  Dragon boats are 22-person canoes that originated in China approximately 2,000 years ago. The boats consist of 20 paddlers, one steersperson and one drummer.  Newcomer Vickie Johnson, survivor and RN nurse navigator, was excited to find something different.  “So, why am I a part of Dallas United PINK? I didn’t want to walk or run, but paddle? That was something totally different! We turn awareness into action every time we step into our boat, set up and paddle. We paddle to prove to ourselves we are strong again. We paddle to prove to our breast cancer sisters, there is life after your diagnosis.  We paddle because we simply want to win the race!”

To create awareness for breast cancer and celebrate survivorship, PINK paddlers are hosting a Community Paddle Party on October 21 at White Rock Lake.  Come paddle with us whether you’re a breast cancer survivor or simply want to try something new!

Date: October 21st

Where: 417 E. Lawther Road at White Rock Lake

Time: 10a – 1pm
