Oak Cliff Residents to Present in "Walk The Light" Artist Symposium

With the influx of young, college-educated men and women, it's no surprise that Oak Cliff is quickly becoming the spot from which innovators hail. Three Oak Cliff residents — Jason Roberts and Andrew Howard of Team Better Block, and Lisa Lindholm of FreeLisa Designs and Banner Theory — will share their experiences with audiences at the Walk The Light Artist Symposium on Oct. 20.

According to Walk the Light founder Laura Allen, the symposium, which preceeds a springtime festival, is all about helping area artists find their place among society as thought leaders and change agents.

"Historically, artists have been the most effective agents in society to use their work to expose injustices, to right the wrongs, to inspire the hopeless, and effect great change where it is needed," Allen said in an interview with Art House Dallas. "Because of this, art is an illuminating and guiding force to direct a society in the direction it ought to go.  Therefore, being an artist is a great responsibility."

The event, which focuses on finding ways to use the talent of artists for the greater good, will feature several talks by artists and nonprofit organizers. An gallery reception featuring local artists with follow the symposium, which starts at 7 p.m.
