The Bishop Dunne Cross Country team completed its District schedule Thursday, Oct. 17 at Spring Trail Park in Irving and won overall. The team is now the TAPPS 5A District 1 Champion.

The last time Dunne’s Cross Country team members won their district was over two decades ago, in 2001, when the team was competing in the smaller 4A division.

“After many years of finishing second place in the 5A division, these young men and women stepped it up a level this year to become 5A-District 1 Champs,’” Coach Stephen Guerrero said.

Next week, the team will travel to Waco to compete in the State TAPPS competition.

District Team Championship point totals are as follows: 

                                   1st place: Bishop Dunne Catholic 68

                                   2nd place: Liberty Christian 71

                                   3rd place: Trinity Christian Addison 77

                                   4th place: Bishop Lynch 79

The team had several individual honors as well.

Girls Varsity Division: Individual District Champion and 1st team All-District Rakel Barrientos.

Boys Varsity Division: 1st team All-District, 2nd place Jarod Moser; 7th place Joshua Benavides2nd team All-District, 11th place Jeffery Hunter; 12th place Alejandro Flores

JV Boys Division: 10th place Nathaniel Mack

 

Members of the 2013 District Championship team include: Rebekah Adkins, Theresa Adkins, Rakel Barrientos, Mayleen Cantu, Madison Haynes, Martha Hobson, Danielle Jackson, Julissa Martinez, Paola Rodriguez, Will Adams, Joshua Benavides, David Briseno, Ben Chavez, Jeremy Fleming, Alejandro Flores, Scott Harris, Jeffrey Hunter, Nathaniel Mack, Jarod Moser, David Rodriguez, Timothy Spencer and Wilson Strong. And, we cannot forget our middle school, even though they have a different schedule, they have been a huge part of this team. Team members are Reagan Barton, Emma Slettebo, Hannah Ott, Grace Robertson, Sanam Kivanany and Ryder Barton.

Bishop Dunne coaches this season are Chris MacLellan, Kevin Braun, Robbie Zeske, Stephen Guerrero and Jacob Benavides, and they are proud of their championship team.
