Joyse Davis, Faith Family Academy eighth-grade math teacher, was presented with the National Citizenship Education Teacher Post Recognition Award from the Veterans of Foreign War Post (VFW) Post 5076. Ms. Davis, who has been an educator for 15 years – seven with Faith Family Academy, received the recognition for promoting citizenship education in her classroom and school.

Each year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars selects elementary, middle, and high school teachers to participate in the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher program. The VFW launched the Smart/Maher National Citizenship Education Teacher Award in 1999 to recognize certified teachers for promoting citizenship education. They select three teachers, one from each level (K-5, 6-8, and 9-12), as department winners. Each department award winner and their school receive a National Citation.

“We are so proud of Joyse Davis, and this respected recognition,” said Molly Purcell Mozley, Superintendent of Faith Family Academy Charter Schools. “Joyse fosters an environment for her students that celebrates mutual respect and honor. This approach aligns with Faith Family’s foundation of public education that goes beyond the classroom.”
