Faith Family Academy (FFA) presented a commissioned painting of USS Doris Miller CVN-81 to FFA’s foundation board member Chief Master Sergeant Reggie Williams at the VFW 511.  The painting was created by FFA’s honor art students under the supervision of Maria Villasmil – FFA Art Coordinator. The finished piece pays tribute to Navy hero and Waco native Doris Miller and the USS Doris Miller CVN-81 aircraft that is scheduled to be laid down January 2026. T

About Doris Miller and USS CVN-81

Doris Miller, from Waco, TX, was a United States Navy third class who was killed in action during World War II He was the first Black American to be awarded the Navy Cross, the highest decoration for valor presented by the US Navy, and the second highest in the United States after the Medal of Honor.

USS Doris Miller (CVN-81) is a future Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier of the United States Navy Doris Miller is scheduled to be laid down January 2026, launched October 2029 and commissioned in 2032.

About Chief Master Sergeant Reggie Williams:

Chief Master Sergeant Reggie Williams is a decorated Air Force veteran who served more than 28 years of service to our country. His service included Korea, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Chief Williams is the current Commander of the VFW Post 1406, the Dorie Miller Memorial Post. He is also the current District Three VFW Jr. Vice Commander. He has received numerous honors within the VFW.
