July 1, 2019 (West Dallas, TX) - Mercy Street welcomes Carlton Oby, originated from West Dallas and well-versed in mentorship, as the new Executive Director. As Mercy Street celebrates 16 years of service, Oby will cast vision for the future of Mercy Street and mobilize the staff to carry out the vision, programming, and day-to-day operations. 

“When I started Mercy Street, the dream was to have someone from West Dallas be equipped to run the ministry,” says Trey Hill, founder. “Carlton returning to Mercy Street to lead the organization is the embodiment of what we hope to see. Carlton understands the ministry from the inside out, is an experienced leader, a charismatic presence, and a great role model.”

Carlton Oby hails from The Mentoring Alliance (which serves East Texas youth and families) as Vice President of Ministries. Before The Mentoring Alliance, Oby served as High School Mentor Coordinator, Director of Leadership Institute, and the Associate Executive Director at Mercy Street from 2006 - 2014. Oby holds a BS in History from Texas College and has completed some graduate coursework at Dallas Theological Seminary. After a period of careful recruitment and selection by the Mercy Street Board, Carlton emerged as the unmistakable candidate. 

Oby shares, “My dream for the community is to create a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-generational movement of people that will work for the glory of God and the good of the city of Dallas and beyond.” Oby will officially step into the role on August 1st, 2019.

Mercy Street is a 501(c)(3) organization that exists to spark community restoration by engaging in mutually-transforming relationships with the future leaders of West Dallas and beyond. Since 2003, Mercy Street has matched more than 1,100 youth with mentors, registered over 600 young athletes in 4 sports leagues, and partnered with 7 local schools.
