CREW Coordinates Community Contest With Irma Lerma Rangel School

Will the inspiration for the future of one of West Dallas' office buildings will come from the mind of a child?

Perhaps that's what Commercial Real Estate Women of Dallas is hoping. With its CREW in the Community program called CREW Careers Building Opportunities, the organization has partnered for the second time with Irma Lerma Rangel School to find a new way to use Continental Park, a single-story commercial building near the West Dallas foot of the Margaret Hunt Hill bridge.

"CREW's objectives through the event are to educate these young women in career opportunities, to be a resource for college and career planning and to facilitate commercial real estate being chosen as a profession," said Regina Weaver, CREW director of community projects with CDK Realty Advisors.

Corgan Architects will host the one-day-only event, dubbed "This Old Building: Continental Park," on November 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. During that day, 25 girls from Irma Lerma Rangel magnet campus will tour Twinrose Investment's Continental Park and work side by side with members of CREW. Then, after brainstorming ideas for the building's redevelopment, they will split into teams to make a plan for the site. The day will conclude with each team presenting its ideas for Continental Park before a panel of judges.

Finding which project best uses the 30-year-old building will be as challenging as formulating a plan, but several local real estate experts have risen to the task. Judges include Brandon Bledsoe, Senior Vice President Amergy Bank; Lenore Sullivan, co-chairwoman of Texas Women’s Ventures; Phil Romano, West Dallas Investments; Theresa O'Donnell, Director of Sustainable Development and Construction for the City of Dallas; Gloria Campos, news anchor of WFAA-TV and Vicky Gunning, chair of CREW in the Community and partner with Locke Lord & Bissell LLP.
