Class of 2012 Thomas Cook has been named to the Beyond Sports College Network Division II All-American team. Thomas had a record setting freshman year at William Jewell University in which he received awards including Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the year, 1st Team All GLVC, and William Jewell Special Teams Player of the Year. He lead the conference in kick return average (19.1) and was third in punt return average (21.4). Thomas shattered the single game conference record when he rushed for 225 yards on 22 caries and 2 touchdowns against St. Josephs College. He also returned a punt 86 yards for a touchdown of which he now holds the record. Cook had a GLVC record, 452 total yards of offense that included 2 receptions for 19 yards and 6 kick returns for 122 yards that day. BSN named Thomas the National Special Teams Player of the week for his performance.
Dunne Alum Austin Yaeger wins Newcomer of the Year award at UNT
Dunne alum, Austin Yaeger who is currently on the cross country team at North Texas University was recognized as the Newcomer of the Year. Austin was a two time All State as well as Academic All state athlete in cross country while at Dunne. Austin is currently a sophomore at UNT.
Senior Ishmael Wilson Named Offense-Defense All American
Ishmael Wilson joined Alex Norman in becoming the second Dunne football player to play in a nationally televised all star game within the past two years. Norman participated in the Under Armour All American game last year in Orlando, Florida. The 7th-annual Offense-Defense All-American Bowl showcases the top 80 best high school seniors in the nation. The game has been broadcasted live by ESPNU and Fox Sports, and has included past players like Cam Newton, Dez Bryant, Carlos Dunlap, Golden Tate, Joe Haden, Rolando McClain, Earl Thomas, among others. Ishamel is considered one of the top players in the country and is ranked as the 87th overall player in the nation by 247 sports. He is also ranked as the 27th bestlineman in the country by ESPN. In January of last year, Ishmael committed to Texas A&M as a junior turning down scholarship offers from Alabama, LSU, Texas, & Michigan among others. The game will be played on Sunday December 30, 2012 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, TX.
Justin Hawthorne, Deyleon Williams, and Michael Andrews invited to play in 2012 Tom Hillary All Star Football Game
The Tom Hillary DFW All-Star Classic will take place on December 15th. The all star game highlights the top area private school players and gives them another venue to display their talent for college coaches. Justin Hawthorne was the team’s leading rusher this past season and was selected 2nd team all district at running back as well as at defensive back. Deyleon Williams is a team captain and was selected 1st team all district at defensive back. Michael Andrews is a four year starter and was named All District Honorable Mention. Bishop Dunne has been well represented throughout the years in the classic dating back to its inaugural season when current Head Coach, Michael Johnson, and Offensive Coordinator Myron Hawthorne played in the game. Last year Thomas Cook, Braelon Roberts, Peter Oeftering, and Dillon King were selected with Thomas being named Offensive MVP. The game will match players from the Fort Worth area against players from the Dallas area.
