Oak Cliff PK-12 School Finishes Third Consecutive Week with Zero COVID-19 Cases

DALLAS, September 3, 2020 — In a recent virtual meeting with Judge Clay Jenkins, local health authorities, and close to 80 public and private school representatives from Dallas County, Tyler Street Christian Academy captured the attention of attendees as the only school represented to have been open for more than two weeks without reporting any cases of COVID-19.

TSCA opened for the school year on August 12th and follows a strict protocol for allowing students, staff, and visitors onto the campus. Every person must wear a face covering, and each family must submit an electronic health screening and undergo a temperature check each morning before entering the building.

The health screening includes questions about whether the child has been in close contact with anyone who has COVID-19 or if they’ve traveled to a place with a high number of cases. Every campus visitor must also have their temperature taken before entering the school building. TSCA has not recorded a single fever or symptom related to COVID-19.

Health screenings and temperature logs are maintained and stored by TSCA administration. Furthermore, TSCA enforces a tight social distancing policy for all students who must also wear masks when they are not seated at their desks. Students break frequently for hand-washing and receive hand sanitizer before entering any room. Additionally, desks and chairs are sanitized daily at the end of each class period. TSCA administration says strict adherence to hygiene protocol is paramount in keeping students and faculty safe.

The school is using a HyFlex learning model, which allows for on-campus instruction along with synchronous online learning. TSCA’s COVID-19 Reopening and Compliance Plan can be viewed here in its entirety.
