The Bishop Dunne Girls Varsity basketball team began their season  with an impressive performance at the Hillsboro Christmas Classic held Dec. 27 and 28.

“We played all 3A schools, and won three of four games,” second year Girls Coach Dewey Wakefield said proudly.

Sophomore Alexandra Reynolds earned an MVP award, and the team all received medals for their second place finish.

“We only lost to Bridgeport High School out of Decatur,” Coach Wakefield said, the final score a close 48–45. “Alexandra Reynolds averaged over 20 points per game.”

Scores for their wins are as follows:

Bishop Dunne 64 – 38  Palmer H.S.

Bishop Dunne 49 – 34  Hillsboro H.S.

Bishop Dunne 64 – 39  Clifton H.S.

The team faces its toughest competition in the first three district games of the season, Coach Wakefield said. “We play Bishop Lynch, Prestonwood and Argyle right off the bat,” he explained, “but our season should get easier after that. Don’t judge us by our first three district games!”

The team plays Ursuline at home at the Fr. Ortega Community Center tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at 7 p.m.

Good luck Lady Falcons!
