Twelve Bishop Dunne cheerleaders attended and performed at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on Jan. 2.

The dozen ladies joined over 700 girls from 22 states to perform in the half time show. The game was a stunner, with the University of Oklahoma upsetting the University of Alabama 45–31.

The trip included the Falcon cheerleaders performing their cheerleading dance routine to a jazz band at Jackson Square, and multiple impromptu performances when the crowd of tourists asked for a cheer.

The squad enjoyed a special New Year’s Eve Masquerade dinner and dance, ending the year with a bang by watching a fireworks show over the Mississippi River.

Cheerleading Captain and senior Tatiana Bouche said of the trip, “The Sugar Bowl was a wonderful experience, filled will lots of good times and great people.” This was Tatiana’s second college bowl experience, having travelled with the Falcon squad to the BCS Bowl two years ago.

Co-Captain and junior Catherine Sellers said, “It was exciting and an honor to be a part of the half time performance. It was fun to see 700 girls come together and learn a routine in such a short amount of time. We had a great trip - especially representing Bishop Dunne!”

Coach Susan Hymes arranged the trip and spent countless hours organizing details behind the scenes along with Coach Becky Sivinski. Michelle Burgess and Katie Sivinski also attended as chaperones. “It was thrilling and exhausting for us all, but it’s a life experience we won’t soon forget” Coach Hymes said.

Attending the trip were Cheer Captain Tatiana Boucher; seniors Christina Briano and Camille Moore; squad members Amaya Clark, Giselle Gomez, Lillie Guy, Hailey Kriska, Victoria Mack, Sarah Massey, Amber Morrison, Maria Nieto and Co-captain Catherine Sellers.

The squad is busy this month cheering for the school’s basketball teams. Try-outs for the new cheer squad for 2014-2015 will be in mid-April. Potential cheerleaders can contact Coach Hymes at shymes@bdhs.org. For more information, click here.
