Update on extravaganza? (28)
Judy,
So sorry but I am buried and so is Susi. We’ll try but it looks doubtful at this point.
Regrets,

It's the brick garage that is 13 stories high - I enter off Main street but there are other entrances.
Take your ticket with you to validate -
Layne - you and the spouse still coming today? I plan to get there by 11:35 ish for the 11:45 start.

Judy,
Is the garage across the street, above ground, or underground below this building?

THAT IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.
We paid for registration over a month ago. This is our opportunity to sell tickets, show our raffle car, show case the club, and we have ZERO. I find this repulsive and unacceptable.

BUT!
I would invite you and yours to come work the parade with my group.
Interested? I have details if you’d like.

Was there an update on the float for Mardi Gras? I hope Mike doesn't have the whole thing on his plate. I will reach out to him to see what I can do but wanted to check with you as to the scoop. Sorry to miss the meeting today! Karo had to get a retainer put in her mouth. Ouch...poor baby.

2. When does the league play? You will play one match a week whenever you and your opponent are both available. If you can't agree on a day and time the week you're scheduled, its OK! You have the entire league to play every opponent.
3. How long does the league last? The league typically lasts 8-10 weeks. So ideally we start in mid February and finish right around the time USTA begins in mid April (so ideal practice for the upcoming season.
4. What's this prize money all about? Assuming each flight is full (8 players/teams or more) then I pay $80 to first place and $20 to second. I have paid out more than $2000 in prize money in the league's hisory
5. How much does it cost? $20 per person, $40 per team.
6. Who can play? Players of any skill level. Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles all available.
7. How do I sign up? Simply email me back and tell me you want to play!!
8. When does it start? I'm shooting for February 16 as the start date.
9. What's the playing format? We play two sets, regular scoring. If both players/teams agree to play the third set out you can. Otherwise you must play a 10-point tiebreaker. Points are awarded for each set won. Player with the most points at the end of the season ends. Ties are broken first by head to head, then set win percentage, then games won percentage.10. You just email me the scores and I will input the results. Here is the last flex league to give you an idea of how it works.Fall Flex League

YOU!!! And Holiday Party... (4)
Nina F. Cox, Independent Mary Kay Consultant
Hey future fabulous Altrusa President!!!Just want to put a bug in your ear (ugh, kind of hate that phrase) about the Holiday Party expense...I've mentioned this to other committee chairs before but to no (or little) avail: a catered event, with NO alcohol included, no room rental fee and no valet for $55 to $60 per person? Sounds really high to me.Our Chef (he worked at Gordon Biersch/Northpark) here at BD caters my events for holiday parties for under $20 per person and the food is fabulous.... I know for certain that new member Amy Gavigan is choosing NOT to attend because she'd rather not pay for a quasi-date (friend) and herself to the tune of $120 when she can attend the weekend retreat for the same amount. If we want to attract ladies to the club, this expense pretty much doubles our Annual Fee ($135 for membership, $120 for holiday party???)I know last year we were charged about this same amount, had too much food left over AND were not "reimbursed" when the final bill was paid and $ was also left over.My preference would be to really look at options for keeping this "Party expense" reasonable; I don't spend this kind of money on myself - the last time I went to Houston's for a fancy meal, it was with a $100 gift card from my principal (I babysat her dog at my home for two weeks over Christmas.)Thanks for re-evaluating this... if we are losing new members (Catherine?) due to expense of expectations ($250 donation to Dessert First, plus lunches, two holiday/membership parties, etc.) we may be looking at an uphill battle to increase membership. we might also take a look at the percentage of MARRIED ALtrusans (two incomes) who attend vs. single Altrusans (one income) who attend at all or without a date. Ideally, I'd like to see our per-person expense $20 plus BYOB - we might get more single ladies + their dates there... and that's good PR for US!Upcoming EventsHoliday PartyWhen: Saturday, January 24, 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.Where: Home of Lynne Auberbach, 954 Forest Grove, DallasWhat: Please respond to your Evite! The theme of this year's New Years Party: "We Are All Winners!" Folks,
As the money guy, there's something I want everyone to think about. I
normally work out the exact cost of the season by adding a fractional
share of the court and ball fees to the TCD membership fee which,
depending on whether we have four or five matches and how many players
are on the team, is usually between $25 and $35. Our usual policy has
been that, if you have to have a makeup match when it is our home
court, and you can't get scheduled at the Village, you are responsible
as a pair for the makeup court fees (though you can pick up the balls
from the VTC, as we have already paid for those). This has the
downside
of falling disproportionately on some people and not others. With that
in mind, I would like to offer people two options:
1) We keep the cost as is - i.e. everyone pays a fractional share of
the cost of court fees and balls plus membership.
2) I incorporate a modest float from which we can reimburse people who
have to pay court fees (likely a $5 add on to the cost of membership).
Please let me know if you would prefer 1) or 2). Majority rules!
Thanks,
David.

Yes - great turnout - and thanks to everyone for all their help in making it a success! Impressive group of women - both members and guests! Hope we get a lot of great new members from this!
I also need to see if anyone picked up the Altrusa signs? I left them in the ladies room, forgot them and got downstairs before I remembered. I went back up but they were gone. The staff at the City Club said someone from our group took them? If so - please let me know - I do need to repair one of them. Thanks to Elizabeth, Monica and Kimberly for holding the signs to help direct the guests! I know sometimes you get some strange looks from folks - but those guests sure appreciated the extra touch in helping them navigate the treacherous tunnels and hidden elevator challenges!

Excellent luncheon today ladies! I was so impressed with our lovely sign carriers....way to be there early and point in the right direction!
My first guest, Blue McElroy, playwright and TeCo Theater manager (daughter of Joe McElroy and Linda Holt of Sqaure Foot Inc. in Oak Cliff) LOVED the meeting and filled out her membership application right there at the table.
Judge John McCall Jr. said he'd like to experience a 'regular' meeting ("Seems like a lot of announcements") before joining, "But I probably will." His father is retired Judge John McCall Sr. and OF COURSE Tena Callahan would know Jr... I know him through the Oak Cliff Lions Club where he is the most dynamic guy in the group. Four Lions said they wanted to attend today's luncheon, and only John followed through. I enjoy his personality and would love to have him as our first "Dude."
I though both Lori and Monica did terrific - authentic - short speeches about why they joined and made us look good!!!! And of course Martha was phenomenal.
Thanks awesome committee for making me proud to be a member of Membership and our club. About four of my other invitees want to come to a future meeting (conflict with today's date) so I'll be following up with them.
YOU ALL ROCK!!!!!

Dear Membership Committee,
Excitement is in the air! Please meet me at the City Club a little early for the Membership Luncheon tomorrow morning. We need all hands on deck. There are 28 guests that have rsvp'd for tomorrow's luncheon. I will be there as close to 11am as possible. If you would get to the Club by 11:15am that would be great. Special thanks to Antonia, Monica and Barbara Kennedy for all the hard work.
See you tomorrow,
Nina
