RUTA UNLOCKS OCTOBER 29, 2026. RUNS OCTOBER 30 THROUGH NOVEMBER 1,

The Oak Cliff Cultural District (OCCD) invites the community to experience the annual Ruta de Altares, a free, self-guided Día de Los Muertos tour spanning the historic Jefferson and Bishop Boulevard corridors. The experience officially unlocks on Thursday, October 29, 2026, and runs through Sunday, November 1, 2026, culminating in a festive Family Block Party at CocoAndré.

Spanning two iconic corridors, this four-day event places the heart and soul of Oak Cliff front and center. Seamlessly blending the spirit of a traditional art walk with deep-rooted community storytelling, Ruta de Altares features beautiful community ofrendas (altars), local artists, neighborhood history, and exclusive specials at neighborhood businesses along the way.

Ruta de Altares is more than a tour; it is an immersion into everything that makes this community whole, says Carina Arellano, founder of Ruta de Altares and the newest member of the OCCD executive committee. We are using the powerful Día de Los Muertos weekend to unite our community around such a time-honored tradition where we remember our lost loved ones. Memory is a powerful thing. This year, an extended route is offered for those entities who want to take part because, as we say, memory is not limited to one location. Plus, we want to share the love and include those who might be located a little bit outside of our official district. Visitors are invited to take the tour, discover hidden gems, and reconnect with the vibrant legacy of the Oak Cliff neighborhood.

Event Registration & Community Impact
While the walk is entirely self-guided, visitors can scan a dedicated QR code to gain full access to the interactive map and designated stops along the route. The QR code will be active starting October 29 and can be found online or displayed at participating retailers and businesses along Jefferson and Bishop Boulevards.

Local businesses, organizations, and community champions are also invited to select a sponsorship level or make a general donation to support ongoing cultural programming. The official deadline to secure an event sponsorship is Monday, October 26, 2026. Proceeds directly help the Oak Cliff Cultural District support local creatives, coordinate route stops, and connect visitors with neighborhood restaurants, shops, theaters, galleries, murals, and historic venues.

Hughes Family Tribute Center will host a 10-week Dementia Care-Partner Support Group beginning Tuesday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m. and continuing through Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Care partners who are interested in attending the support group are asked to register to attend and pay $25.00 (plus tax and processing fees) to cover the cost of the workbook and class materials. Limited scholarships are available.

The more people who are compassionate to the dementia care partner from the outside in, the more they are capable of being self-compassionate from the inside out."

Each weekly session will cover different aspects of caring for someone with dementia. For example, topics during the first three weeks include:

- The first week will introduce the hosts of the group, distribute the Dementia Care-Partner Workbook to those that registered, and begin discussions of what the group will experience and learn over the next 10 weeks.

- The second week will begin a foundation to understand and learn about what dementia is, how it is diagnosed, the various forms of dementia, and much more.

- Week 3 will discuss the key parts of the brain and their functions, defining activities of daily living, and the different stages of dementia from mild cognitive impairment to late-stage dementia. This week builds on top of Week 2's discussion of what dementia is and how it impacts the mind and physical body.

Give your child something different to do over school break with Ecstatic Learnings hands-on electronics camps for kids ages 813. Over three days, campers will work with real tools and components as they learn how circuits and electronics actually workbuilding skills, confidence, and projects along the way.

THE CAMPS

Electronics Basics Part One, "Circuits & Fundamentals." Campers learn electronics safety and tools, core electrical concepts, circuit assembly, PCB design and soldering.
Electronics Basics Part Two, "Build & Solder." Campers practice more soldering, work with advanced components, read schematics, use a multimeter and prototype on breadboards. The session ends with a capstone project. Part One is a prerequisite.

Oak Cliff Drive-Through Prayer Event Coincides with National Day of Prayer

Dallas, April 28, 2022A Drive-Through Prayer Event sponsored by Tyler Street Church takes place on May 5 from 4 to 6 pm at the churchs parking lot at 9th and Polk Streets (near the Bishop Arts District.) This date coincides with the National Day of Prayer which was created by President Harry Truman in 1952. The last time this drive-though event was held, 30 volunteers from Tyler Street Church and other local churches prayed for the needs and concerns of more than 120 neighbors. To provide ample opportunity to those whod like prayer, drive-through prayers will be available in the parking lot every Thursday afternoon on May 5, 12, 19, and 26 from 4 pm to 6 pm.

"You simply drive through and roll down your window. Volunteers pray for you or for whatever is on your heart. We know these are difficult times, and we all need someone who will care about us, and show us love. This is our church's way of sharing God's grace and love with the neighbors around the Bishop Arts District," says event organizer Alan Elliott. "Typical prayer concerns include health issues, family relationships, job searches, and world events. Every prayer request is treated with love and respect. Follow-up prayers by our prayer team are available after the event to anyone who makes a request.

The Tyler Street Church parking lot is located at the corner of 9th and Polk Streets (976 W 9th, Dallas.) Pastor is Rev. Jeff Garrett.
