Some of the best drum corps in the world will once again converge on north Texas to compete at the 40th anniversary of Drum Corps International (DCI) Dallas on Monday, July 25 at Lake Highlands High School stadium in Dallas, Texas.

What are drum corps? They are groups of 150 collegiate and high school brass and percussion musicians plus guard performing highly sophisticated, musically complex, and visually stunning performances. Click here to see a 3-minute montage from last year’s DCI World Championships which includes performances from several of this year’s DCI Dallas competitors.

Six of the nine drum corps competing at DCI Dallas this year were finalists in the 2015 DCI World Championships and include the Blue Devils—last year’s World Champions.

The level of talent coming to Dallas this year will be breathtaking. Music lovers and drum corps enthusiasts from across the region, state, and nation will be in attendance for this incredible evening. This will be the final DCI competition in Texas this year.

Organizers strongly recommend purchasing tickets in advance at www.dci.org, since another very large turnout is expected.

On-site paid parking will be available and free remote parking will be provided at the Lake Highlands Town Center (north side) less than a mile from the stadium. There will be free shuttles between the Town Center and Wildcat Stadium starting at 5:30pm. All parking proceeds go directly to our local LH bands. DCI Dallas is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Lake Highlands Area Band Club, which supports band programs at Lake Highlands High School, Lake Highlands Junior High and Forest Meadow Junior High.

The drum corps competing at DCI Dallas are:

  • Blue Devils – Concord, CA
  • Blue Knights – Denver, CO
  • Bluecoats – Canton, OH
  • Boston Crusaders – Boston, MA
  • Crossmen – San Antonio, TX
  • Genesis – Austin, TX
  • Guardians – Houston, TX
  • Phantom Regiment – Rockford, IL
  • Troopers – Casper, WY

Each corps spends weeks of 11-hour+ rehearsal days to perfect their performance. They compete across the United States each summer, typically logging over 10,000 miles as they move daily from state to state competing in many of the 100+ DCI competitions held around the country.

2016 DCI Dallas Chair Rolf Siegers says “This 40th anniversary show will be one of the finest we’ve hosted in north Texas and includes an exceptional lineup from top to bottom. We encourage music lovers everywhere to come see these amazing collegiate and high school performers. Thousands of students across the nation audition each year for the opportunity to be selected as a member of a drum corps. You’ll see and hear the best of the best on the LH stadium field that night.”
